Baseball game

Cardinals vs. Nationals

Uncle Jay invited us to go to the Cardinals game with him. We all dressed in red and drove out to Jay's place. We took the water taxi from Alexandria to the stadium.
During the game we taught Emma how to keep score. Too bad the Cardinals lost. Seems every time Clay and Jay get together for a Cardinals game they loose. Gotta break that...

First Day of School

Hooray for the first day of school! This is the only time the girls will be in school together. Emma is in 5th grade and Rebekah is in Kindergarten.
Rebekah is standing by the sign that Emma made.
Rebekah gets to ride the mid-day bus home from school. She had a great first day.

Hershey Park

We went up to Hershey Park again. We really enjoy it.

Started off the night before at Chocolate World were we had dinner and went on the simulated factory tour ride and got our free piece of chocolate at the end of the ride. Then off to the park for preview night. They have a new ride called Skyrush. Emma was tall enough so we tried to talk her into going on with us. She chickened out at the last minute and waited with Rebekah. I AM SO GLAD SHE DID. That was a scary ride! It only has a lap bar --no shoulder harness. BOTH Clay and I felt like we were going to fall out of our seats -literally. There are no loops on the ride, just lots of steep up and downs to make you feel like you are falling. I was sliding around and grabbed on to the lap bar to stay in my seat. The thought of skinny little Emma on that ride was not a pleasant one.
We all went on the SooperDooperLooper. Rebekah kept her head down and eyes closed. She asked Clay to tell her when it was over. When we got off the ride I asked her if she liked it. She said sort of. I asked if she wanted to go again and she said no.

The next day the girls really had a great time together.

Clay and Emma went on The Claw. There was no way I was going on that. I think they enjoyed it. Clay's in the green shirt and Emma is next to him. Below, Clay has his arm out.

Learning to sew

This summer I signed Emma up for some sewing classes at our local Joann store.

I have to say, I did have some problems with the way the employees and the store handled things. We had a teacher not show up for the class because she was out of town. Another time they decided to change the pattern after we signed up and not notify us. And another time they decided to change the time of the class and not notify us. Still another time I had a question about the supply list, the manager took down my info and said he would have the teacher call me. That never happened.

Despite all the trouble I had with the store, Emma really enjoyed the classes. She learned a lot. She had been asking me to teach her how to sew but I just really didn't have the patience to do it. And I was afraid she would break my machine. I wanted someone else to teach her the basics and then I could help her from there. Here is what she made:

Sewing 101 -Pillowcase
Quilting 101 -Applique
Sewing 102 -Sewing by hand, blanket stitch (she made and extra one for Rebekah)
Sewing 201 -Apron with bias tape
This one was a lot of work. They didn't have enough time to finish in class. I ended up pinning all the bias tape for her and then letting her just sew it together. But it turned out so cute and she really loves it. (Can you tell what her new favorite colors are??)

Rehoboth Beach

Went to the beach with the Rosenlunds again. The kids had a great time playing together.

They also enjoyed the little amusement park there.
Check out these faces of Rebekah and Evan:
Passed out at the end of a fun filled day.

More Birthday

When we got home Emma had a package from Granddad and Kris waiting for her.
She also had a Stitch pillow pet from me waiting for her. She was very excited.
Rebekah wanted to show off her own pillow pet and favorite stuffed animal.
