Memorial Day

Today we marched in the Falls Church Memorial Day Parade. Clay's uncle is running for Congress, http://www.murray4congress.com/, but we know him as Uncle Jay. We joined him in the parade to help get the word out and strike up some votes. The Republican Primary is on June 8th. If you or someone you know live in Virginia's 8th Congressional District (we don't :( unfortunately), vote for Murray!
The girls love their Uncle Jay. Emma was holding his hand and walking right beside him the whole way.
We also got to meet Joe McCain (on the right), brother of John McCain, who is endorsing Uncle Jay.

the end of camping

Here's our campsite. It rained Thursday night while we were sleeping. Then again on Friday right before and after dinner. We actually ate dinner inside out tent to stay dry. Luckily we had enough time to start a fire and get it cooked.

We went on a "stroll' on the Limberlost trail. It was a great easy trail for the kids, and we found a really cool rock formation.

We lagged behind a bit at one point. As we caught up with our group we saw this:

And this is what they were looking at -there's an owl in the middle in the shot.

More camping

We went went camping in Shenandoah National Park. Our first hike was to South River Falls.

Here's a lizard we found at the falls.

These flowers from the tulip trees were all over the forest floor.

Emma was having fun with her friend, Elizabeth. We let the two of them, plus Olivia, sleep in the smaller tent by themselves. They had a great time giggling all night.

Camping trip

What happens when you go on a 2-night camping trip with 2 adults, 2 kids, and a tiny sedan? This:

We are all packed up and ready to go. I could not see Emma at all from my seat, and I could only see Rebekah in the side mirror. Good times.

Fashion Show

The girls and I had an impromptu fashion show tonight while daddy stayed late at work. It started with them dressing up their stuffed animals, then they got into it too.

Emma really hammed it up for the camera. I don't know where she gets it.

Finally, they decided to dress me up.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo doesn't really exist out her on the East Coast. Growing up in Los Angeles (the city of Angels) it was a much bigger deal. We celebrated Cinco de Mayo in school, had fiestas, and ate really good food. The food has always been my favorite part. I also remember taking a field trip to Olvera_Street to learn more about California's mexican heritage.

I miss it. This year I decided to make my own party for the family. Rebekah and I both dressed in shirts from Mexico, and I made a steak tostadas with mango salsa, guacamole, and spanish rice. The best thing about mexican food is that my girls LOVE it and will eat lots and lots of it!
