Food Drive

I was asked to coordinate the "Love Your Neighbor, Feed Your Neighbor" food drive again this year. You can see last year here. This year we had our own website www.lynfyn.org

This year was easier in some ways and harder in other ways. It still took a lot of coordination. But all that hard work brought in literally TONS of food.

Last year, being our first year doing a food drive, we weren't sure what to expect. We brought in over 55,000 pounds of food. This year, we learned from our mistakes and tried to improve our efforts. We brought in almost 69,000 pounds. That's a 27% increase. The only food drive that brings in more food to Loudoun County is Scouting for Food which has been around for a very long time.
This year we had tents set up for the food sorters. We had to check the expiration dates on all the food that came in (we drew the line at 2011). We also had to pull out food for Backpack Buddies (individual servings for kids). Emma and Rebekah helped sort after they finished their route with Clay.
See if you can spot them.
Here's the only picture of me this year...In the reflection of the truck window.
It was a lot of work and I'm very tired from it all.
It was also very rewarding. It feels good to know that you are serving others and making a difference in the lives of those in need.
