Gettysburg

Today was the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg.
We thought it would be "fun" to go up for it.

Bad idea.
Crazy amounts of people. Had to park at the outlets.
If you've ever been to Gettysburg, you know that it covers ACRES of ground. The best way to see it is to follow the auto tour and get out of your car at the different points.
How are we supposed to do that without a car?

This guy was acting as an army surgeon. Kind of gruesome, but a fascinating story.
We went up with the Henrys. It was their first time to Gettysburg. Had I realized that, I would have told them to wait until next week when the crowd is gone. Still they had some fun things for the anniversary. We had the kids do the Junior Ranger program while we were there.
Here we met Mrs. Lincoln.
Here is a comparison of the Confederate (Greys) and the Union (Blues) uniforms. It shows how much better equipped the Union was. Still I can't imagine marching around in those wool suits in this summer heat and humidity. The heat index was 110 today.
At the Gettysburg cemetery all the grave markers were marked with an American flag. Some of them also had their state flag. The Ohio ones also had a buckeye laid on each marker. It was an inspiring sight.
Rebekah is always finding new friends wherever we go.
