Community Egg Hunt

This year our HOA put on an Egg Hunt. We were excited to participate in a community event. My neighbor and I have put on an egg hunt for our block for the last 3 years. We were glad to participate in this event instead. 

When we got home the girls had some fun with their hair. 

I too came home from the egg hunt with a souvenir. While helping Rebekah into a gunny sack for a race she jumped up and knocked me in the chin. I put my teeth into my lip. It bled a ton and hurt worse. The cut didn't go all the way through. Luckily, lips heal quickly. Also grateful that one of our friends tossed me the keys to his house so I could get cleaned up and get some ice. Would have been a lot worse had I not gotten ice on it so quickly. 

School Talent Show

Emma was participating in the talent show at school. The surprise for the evening was that the teachers got up on stage and danced to "Footloose". Everyone laughed and cheered for them. They were not listed on the program but the biggest hit of the evening.

Emma and her friend Katherine did a comedy skit, "Jokes with Katherine" with special guest "Murray the Mustache Man". 

Here is a rundown of their skit.

K--Oh my gosh, I can't believe I am on stage! Mom, I hope you're videotaping this. This is 'Jokes with Katherine'. They are very funny tee-hee-hee. Hi, I'm Katherine and today we are here with Murray the Mustache Man. Do you have any jokes for us today Murray?

E--Yes.

K--Well, aren't you going to tell us?

E--Well, yes. I was just waiting for your cue. Do you want to hear a joke about cats?

K--No, not really.

E--Well too bad!! You are going to hear one! Actually I was just KITTEN. Ha ha that one was really funny!

K--No, no it wasn't funny.

E--Sassy! Alright, I've got another joke for you. Knock, knock.

K--Who's there?

E--You Da Layee

K--You Da Layee who?

E--I didn't know you could yodel! That one is a rib-tickler!

K--(sarcastic)Ha ha very funny. Now when are these jokes going to get funny?

E--Alright, alright. I've gone one more. Where to bees go to the bathroom?

K--Where could they possibly go to the bathroom?

E--The BP Station!!

K--Wow. This is 'Jokes with Katherine'. This time not very funny.

As a finale for the skit they say "What Makes you Beautiful" goat edition. In case you haven't seen, there are tons of screaming_goat_editions of songs on YouTube. 

 Emma came home from school today not feeling well. She threw up around 4 pm. I thought it was just nerves, but she seemed to get worse. She was not looking good at all that evening. But the show must go on! She did not want to disappoint her friend. So she pushed through and did the skit. We went home immediately after. She threw up another 3 times after going to bed.

My mom sent my old black kitty costume. Rebekah was so excited to see it. She took it and ran upstairs to create her own costume. This is "kitty ballerina". 

CAR State Conference

I took the girls down to Richmond this weekend for the VA CAR State Conference. We left right after school on Friday and didn't get back until Sunday afternoon. We started our own CAR society just a couple years ago and decided it was time to see what State Conference is all about. It was the Hunts, Hardings, and the Byes. Luckily all our kids got along great and had a ton of fun together. 

The business meetings were long and boring. Not very kid-friendly for a Children's organization. However, they did have a little break where the older kids grabbed all the younger kids to sing and march around the room. Rebekah loved all the attention from the older kids. 

On Saturday we took 2 buses full of kids for a tour of the Virginia State Capital. I found the tour very interesting, but most of the kids found it boring. Thomas Jefferson designed the Capital while he was in France. We took a picture of our group with the bust of George Mason. He will be the focus of our new VA CAR State President's project. 

 The coolest part of the Capital is the statue of George Washington. It is the ONLY life-sized statue done of him while he was still ALIVE.  I also love the hidden rotundra ceiling. Notice that the outside of the Capital shows no evidence of the rotundra dome with glass skylight. 

Rebekah latched onto one of the older girls who was a state officer. They went around looking at things and had piggy-back rides. Saturday night was the Awards Banquet and we all had to be in formals.

Scrapbooking & Piano Recital

This weekend I went to a scrapbook retreat with my friends Betsy and Melinda. It was great all that time trying to get caught up. I completed 49 2-page layouts!

Meanwhile, Clay had a busy weekend with the girls. They went out to lunch with Uncle Jay.

Emma had a piano recital in the evening. I know, I hated to miss it. But I paid for this retreat back in Sept way before they even had a date picked out for the recital.

They had 6 pianos on the stage. Each piano had 2 students playing the same duet. 

 Emma is the one with the short sleeves on the white piano. 

New Haircut

Rebekah has been asking to get her hair cut for a little while now. I kept putting her off I think she just wants the lollipop at the end, and I'm not ready for it. She finally asked me when I would take her so I promised to do it after we got back from FL. She kept me to my word and I took her in. They cut off about 5 or 6 inches! That's what she wanted and she does look cute.

Islands of Adventure

My girls were so excited to go to Universal's Islands of Adventure. They wanted to go back to the Wizarding World or Harry Potter! Emma asked me to make her a Slytherin shirt for her to wear. I made a Hufflepuff one for Rebekah too. Emma even read Rebekah the first couple of chapters of the Sorcerer's Stone to Rebekah on the drive down. Rebekah really wanted to go on the Forbidden Journey ride which requires you to be 48". I measured her and Rebekah is about 46.5" tall. She ran and got her "tall shoes". They were black loafers with a thick heal. I measured her again, right at 48". However, when we got to the park she went up to the measuring post and her head passed right under the bar. Everyone made a quick huddle around her while I took off my socks, rolled them, and shoved them under her heal. Heather said an employee spotted us and said "Good luck!" Well it worked. She now hit the bar with her head. And it was worth it. She loved the ride. Well, she had her eyes closed the whole time. We went back later for a 2nd ride. There was a great employee who hammed it up with her. She said she went on it already but had her eyes closed the whole time. He told her she had to keep them open or he would keep sending her back on the ride until she did. When we got off she said "I kept them open until the skeletons (the dementors) came." That's pretty good.

We also rode on the Dragon Challenge, and The Hulk. Both had loops. I really liked the Hulk, it has a sneaky start. Of course, we went on Spider Man too. They have improved the movie portion of the ride. I think it must be in HD 3D now.

 Dr Seuss Landing is such a fun and colorful place.

This was our last day together. Mike & Heather took an early flight in the morning. Heather's parents took them to the airport and then started the drive back to Mississippi. The girls and I cleaned out the house and then started our own drive back. 15 hours later we made it home.
