Swim Team

We had a great season on swim team this year. Emma swam with the 11&12's and Rebekah swam with the 7&8's. Here's some photos of Rebekah in action: She got new goggles about halfway through the season. Rebekah decided she really like Breaststroke.

Here's our Emma. Her favorite stroke is butterfly. At the awards night she got the "Dead Bug Fear Award". Apparently there were a few morning where there were a lot of dead bugs in the pool. She would not get in for practice because of all the dead bugs. We didn't find out about that til that night. She was still a big help to the team. She volunteered as a Junior Coach helping the 6 & Under kids during practice.
 
 
 
 

 Here is how Clay & I spend most of the swim meets. All the families need to volunteer so many hours to help run all the swim meets. Now that both the girls are swimming, Clay & I can volunteer together. Our favorite job is timer. We have our backs to each other in this picture because we are timing for different lanes. I'm the one in the big hat. I always wear it at the pool.
 

Final swim meet & Udvar Hazy museum

Isn't this a great shot of Rebekah diving in! They just did a diving clinic with the kids. Much improved.

Clay's friend from Irondale High School came to stay with us while they toured DC.

Clay and the girls met up with them at the Udvar-Hazy Museum while I did laundry and started packing for our own vacation.

Another mini meet

Rebekah has another mini meet. She did even better this time. Taking a few seconds off each stroke. And the junior coaches stayed out of her way this time. :)

More swim team

Clay and I worked as timers this year. Here's Clay giving Emma a pep talk before her next event.

This year Emma has enjoyed swimming backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley (25m of all 4 strokes). Then she is always on the Medley Relay for her team.

Rebekah was allowed to swim in the last real meet of the season. She did great! I think she got 3rd.

Mini Meet

Rebekah did not make it onto the regular swim team. They had tryouts. All you had to do was swim a legal stroke of freestyle and backstroke. Rebekah did great on backstroke. When they asked her to do freestyle she said no. She didn't want to do it. Therefore she is on the mini team.

 

Today was their first mini meet. There are only 3 events: Kickboard, Freestyle, and Backstroke. And they have 2 junior coaches in each lane to help the kids out. Rebekah did great! I think she got 46 seconds on one and 41 seconds on the other (kickboard was a lot slower). I actually think the junior coach slowed her down b/c she was right in her way instead of on the side. Anyway, she had a great swim.

 We all laughed as I took this picture. Rebekah is swimming backstroke. She saw me and gave me a huge smile for her picture. Her coaches were laughing that she was smiling during her race. She really was having a good time.

I was just looking at some videos I took of Emma last year during swim team. Wow. What a difference! She has really become a swimmer this year. Her strokes are refined and smooth. She is really doing a fantastic job.
