A walk in the woods

Clay did an overnight hike in the George Washington National Forest, south of Shenandoah National Park. Clay hiked 22 miles. That makes 95 miles for the year and a total of 458 miles of the trail.
Clay likes to take panoramas with his phone. It is beautiful country.

Hiking the trail

Clay's goal is to hike 100 miles on the Appalachian Trail each year while the girls are still at home. Now that he has most of Virginia done he has to travel farther and farther to accomplish his goal. In order to make the driving worthwhile he needs to do multiple day hikes.
Clay planned a hike from Bake Oven Knob to Port Clinton, PA. We all drove up together and dropped Clay off for his hike. Here are some photos from his hike.

Clay goes hiking for Spring Break

The girls and I went to NC to visit my cousin without Clay.
Clay wanted to hike another section of the Appalachian Trail.
Our neighbor, Wes, went with him.
They drove down to Buchanan, VA. They spent the night and got an early start in the morning.
Over the next 3 days they hiked 41.4 miles south to Roanoke, VA.

Mt Baker

It was a beautiful day up on Mt Baker.
The girls were surprised to find snow on the mountain. They all had a great time playing in the snow and riding the sled down the slope.
Here's the tightly twisting road we took up and back down the mountain.
